VERY WORTHWHILE PROJECT! Heres is a 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Idianapolis 500 Pace Car Replica with low miles that has been sitting for some time. It is showing 16,315 miles on it and in many areas it looks correct and others it shows a lot of age more than wear. It is the second most desireable engine and transmission combination, the L82 with the Turbo 400 automatic transmission. It is a leather car and has all the right equipment! Some of the paint is original but I detect paint work on the left side. The factory alloy wheels are in great shape! The power windows roll up and down fine but are out of adjustment. The a/c compressor kicks in and cool air does blow out of the vents. The radio is an AM FM 8 Track and the FM radio part is in working order, I can't get the AM side to work and I don't have an 8-Track tape handy to check the tape side. It cranks and runs just fine, the transmission shifts out fine, there is a roar like bearing noise coming from the right rear so it needs some attention there. The T-Tops are in good shape. The leather is in good condition but does show some wear but no holes, rips or tears! The carpet is dingy and this was the case withthis type of carpet even when these cars were 2 years old unless you were very careful to keep it covered and clean. The armrest and door panels are fine. The power door locks are not working and I have not check to see if it is a fuse or actuator, my guess is the actuators are bed becuase the door locks are very stiff from not being lubricated which can ruin the actuator. The cruise control does not operate and again I have not checked to see if it is a fuse or the transducer, but these transducer were horrible even with a couple of years age about giong bad. All in all this car could be brought up to being shown fairly easy with some TLC. This car was traded in at our Nissan store and the customer stated that the miles are correct and that he was the 4th owner. If you just want to show the car and not drive it you can get it up pretty quickly, if you want to make it a driver it will require more work to repair the roar, power locks and cruise. Parts are very easy to get for these year Vettes so don't let the part situation scare you away! Many projects wind up costing you more than you can buy a completed car for, but I believe with what this one needs at our price you will come out ahead and have great investment potential too!
